Tips in First Aid

Every year many accidents occur. With some care, they can be prevented. In case an accident does happen you can be of help if you know first aid. Read each of the following carefully. You will be able to give vital first aid if needed. Remember always to seek help from an adult immediately Do not move the casualty unnecessarily. Keep him warm. Make a diagnosis, decide the treatment and treat . Remember the ABC of first aid. See if his Airways are clear, that he is breathing, and his blood circulation is patent.

1.RESPIRATION:
If it is failing give artificial respiration- mouth to mouth or mouth to nose.

2.BLEEDING:
Arrest the bleeding and protect the wound. Apply direct or indirect pressure. Cover with a dressing, apply a pad and firm bandage. Elevate and keep it at rest.

3.FRACTURES:
Immobilize it with a well padded stiff support reaching the joints on either side of the site and at joints on either side support.

4.BURNS AND SCALDS:
A burn is caused by dry heat and a scald by moist heat like steam, very hot water or oil. Immediately cool the area with cold water for 15 minutes till the pain subsides. Do not break blisters, or apply anything on the burns. Cover with a sterile or clean cloth, pad and bandage. Give fluids.

5.NOSE BLEEDING: Sit him up facing the breeze and the head slightly forward. Ask him to breathe through the mouth and not to blow the nose. Apply a cold compress over the nose. The soft part of the nose may be pinched close with the fingers for 10 minutes. Cold application on the back of the neck and forehead may help.

6.BEE STING:
Do not press the bag (of the sting) . Apply cold or weak ammonia.

7.ANIMAL BITES:
Wash up with soap and plenty of water .Loose bandage may be applied. Get quick medical aid.

8.SNAKE BITES:
Keep patient calm . Wash with plenty of water and soap. Do not rub hard. First apply a constrictive bandage on heart side of the bite(not to be applied continuously for more than 20 minutes).Do not incise or attempt to suck the wound. Get aid quickly. Try to identify the snake.

9.FAINTING:
Lay him down and loosen clothing around chest and waist. Turn head to one side. The legs may be raised a little. Do not attempt to give any solids or liquids. On recovery small amount of a drink may be given and allowed to sit up and move after rest.

10.GENERAL:
If you are in doubt about the treatment do not do anything. You may do more harm.

FIRST AID KIT:
First Aid kit is a basic essential in every household, especially one where little kids reside. It should also accompany you when you go on trips where injuries are likely to occur, for example, camping and picnics etc.

A basic First Aid kit should contain:
• Sterile gauze pads of different sizes
• Adhesive tape
• Adhesive bandages in several sizes
• Elastic bandage
• Splint
• Antiseptic swabs
• Soap
• Antibiotic ointment
• Antiseptic solution
• Hydrocortisone cream (1%)
• Pain killers
• Extra prescription medications (if the family is going on vacation)

Home Remedies for obesity:-

*Extract juice of one lemon in a glass of lukewarm water. Add a teaspoon of honey, mix well and take in the morning immediately after waking up and before taking anything else. Similarly add a pinch of black rock salt instead of honey to the lukewarm water, mix it well and take it daily in the afternoon. These two drinks must be taken regularly to cut off fats form your body.

*Roast barley seeds and powder it. Mix it with a little milk and honey. Make a small ball and take it in breakfast. A pinch of salt can be added with a little water.

*Sieve wheat flour and remove the bran. Mix two tablespoon full of this bran in a glass of skimmed milk, add honey and take it at least once a day. Do not add sugar. Bran can also be taken with buttermilk.

*Take a ripe banana mashed in plain diluted cow’s milk with a tablespoonful of fresh banana flower juice during breakfast for a couple of months can help in reducing obesity.

*Ten drops of tulsi leaf juice with two teaspoon full of honey in water for one month. This tulsi juice is very effective in terms of reducing obesity from body.

*Raw tomatoes and onions, mixed with juice of one lemon is a very good salad for obesity.

*Having green tea has been found to be beneficial in treating obesity. You can also consume tea made from dandelion root.

*Horse gram can help cure obesity. Soak 1-2 tbsp horse gram in a glass of water and keep it overnight. Filter the concoction the next morning and have it on an empty stomach.

*To prevent obesity, there is no better option than physical exercise. Brisk walking is the best exercise to begin with. As soon as you wake up in the morning, workout for at least 30mins to an hour. Burn up unwanted calories by putting large leg muscles to work.

1. Massage the Scalp with pure coconut oil. This will also help growth of hair.

2. Apply coconut oil which has been boiled with small onions for about 20 minutes. Wash it off with a mixture of green gram powder and water drained from cooked (boiled) rice.

3. Apply a mixture of almond oil and gooseberry juice with finger tips on the scalp.

When you feel like rel axing, try reading a book instead. If you’re too tired, listen to some music. When you’re with your friends or family, leave the tube off and have a conversation. All of these things use your mind more than television and allow you to relax.

2. Exercise – I used to think that I’d learn more by not exercising and using the time to read a book instead. But I realized that time spent exercising always leads to greater learning because it improves productivity during the time afterwards. Using your body clears your head and creates a wave of energy. Afterwards, you feel invigorated and can concentrate more easily.

3. Read Challenging Books – Many people like to read popular suspense fiction, but generally these books aren’t mentally stimulating. If you want to improve your thinking and writing ability you should read books that make you focus. Reading a classic novel can change your view of the world and will make you think in more precise, elegant English. Don’t be afraid to look up a word if you don’t know it, and don’t be afraid of dense passages. Take your time, re-read when necessary, and you’ll soon grow accustomed to the author’s style.

Once you get used to reading challenging books, I think you’ll find that you aren't tempted to go back to page-turners. The challenge of learning new ideas is far more exciting than any tacky suspense-thriller.

4. Early to Bed, Early to Rise – Nothing makes it harder to concentrate than sleep deprivation. You’ll be most rejuvenated if you go to bed early and don’t sleep more than 8 hours. If you stay up late and compensate by sleeping late, you’ll wake up lethargic and have trouble focusing. In my experience the early morning hours are the most tranquil and productive. Waking up early gives you more productive hours and maximizes your mental acuity all day.

If you have the opportunity, take 10-20 minute naps when you are hit with a wave of drowsiness. Anything longer will make you lethargic, but a short nap will refresh you.

5. Take Time to Reflect – Often our lives get so hectic that we become overwhelmed without even realizing it. It becomes difficult to concentrate because nagging thoughts keep interrupting. Spending some time alone in reflection gives you a chance organize your thoughts and prioritize your responsibilities. Afterwards, you’ll have a better understanding of what’s
important and what isn't The unimportant stuff won’t bother you anymore and your mind will feel less encumbered.
I’m not saying you need to sit on the floor cross-legged and chant ‘ommm’. Anything that allows a bit of prolonged solitude will do. One of my personal favorites is taking a solitary walk.
